Traitomic

Traitomic, established in 2022 and based in Copenhagen, Denmark, is a company specializing in developing beneficial traits across a wide range of crops and microbes. Originating from Carlsberg Research Laboratory’s work with barley and yeast, Traitomic employs a proprietary technology called FIND-IT (Fast Identification of Nucleotide variants by droplet DigITal PCR). This non-GMO method accelerates the development of new traits by rapidly identifying specific genetic variations, enabling the creation of healthier, more diverse, and environmentally sustainable foodstuffs.

Traitomic’s approach involves utilizing large mutant libraries to identify desired traits at single-nucleotide resolution. This process significantly speeds up the development of new crop varieties with improved performance. The company collaborates with various partners, including the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) in Australia, to provide access to these genetic resources for crops such as oats and lupins. This partnership aims to accelerate genetic research and the development of new varieties tailored to specific needs.

As of 2024, Traitomic employs 22 individuals and operates from its headquarters at Gamle Carlsberg Vej 10, 1799 Copenhagen, Denmark. The company is led by co-founder and Managing Director Gustav Hambraeus
