On September 21, the 2023 Global Trade in Services Summit, co-sponsored by the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) and Nanjing Municipal People's Government, opened in Nanjing. Guo Tingting, Vice Minister of Commerce, delivered a video speech, while Chen Zhichang, Mayor of Nanjing Municipal People's Government, and Chai Xiaolin, Director of the WTO's Trade in Services and Investment Division, delivered their speeches as well. Themed "Innovating in Trade in Services, Digitizing the Future of Services", this event focuses on establishing a national demonstration zone for innovative development in trade in services, propelling the digital transformation of trade in services while fostering an international platform for exchange and cooperation in this sector. The event seeks to expedite the exchanges and collaborations between Nanjing and countries across the globe, with a steadfast commitment to continuously enhancing Nanjing's international influence and brand competitiveness in the sector of trade in services. During the summit, a series of special events were held, including the Digital Service Innovation and Development Forum, the International Education Service Trade Cooperation Forum, the Digital Trade International Cooperation Matchmaking Meeting, and the Nanjing Service Trade Achievement Exhibition.
In her address, Guo Tingting pointed out that in recent years, China has been actively advancing comprehensive pilot demonstrations for expanding the opening-up of the service sector and innovative development pilots in trade in services. Favorable policies in the sector of trade in services have been continuously released, and the overall situation remains positive.
Currently, the digitalization process of trade in services is accelerating. Emerging technologies such as big data, cloud computing, and the Internet provide advanced technical support for the development of trade in services, giving rise to various service formats and models. It is crucial for us to grasp the trends of technological and trade transformations, proactively embrace the new opportunities for the development of trade in services, expand opening-up in trade in services, and foster a more open and inclusive environment for growth, deepen cooperation in trade in services and establish mutually beneficial collaboration platforms. By leading trade innovations and reinforcing a development path driven by innovation, we can position trade in services as a significant pillar supporting the construction of a robust trading nation.
