Founded in 1973, SeTeL is a leader in logistics engineering, specializing in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS). The primary mission is to provide services, consulting, applications and technologies to ensure that required measures of optimal effectiveness (i.e., operational availability, risk of supporting resource shortages, etc.) are met throughout the "life cycle" of complex systems. In this context, SeTeL has conducted activities on more than 120 complex systems in different sectors such as aviation, space, naval, railroads, ICT, etc. during its 47 years of life. Initially, SeTeL provided authoring services for technical documentation for defense technology systems; in 1992, SeTeL was the first Italian company to offer a "markup" language, which evolved into XML in 1995 and is now the de facto market standard for data management. At the same time, SeTeL established methodologies and procedures to meet emerging engineering needs, including reliability and maintainability analyses of systems and equipment, technical training, and basic coaching training.SeTeL's role as a high-value-added service provider supporting the ILS services of major manufacturers has evolved in response to the technological developments in these scenarios and the increasing demand for ILS by end users. Over the years, SeTeL's skills have grown exponentially to become a partner to major companies in different sectors.
SETEL is an experienced partner in other different fields:
-Development of programs to fund research and development, industrial research, training, and exchanges.
-Establishment, start-up and management of industrial SME clusters in high-caliber environments such as aerospace and aviation maintenance.
-Active participation initiatives and groups aiming to work with universities, research centers (e.g. CNR Italy and ENEA) and businesses.
Beginning in the 1990s, SeTeL began to reconvert/transfer its expertise from the defense sector to the civilian sector. This was a knowledge transfer - never interrupted and still ongoing - through which the company enhanced its "culture" in new markets, dealing with different issues in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary topics. subject matter to deal with different issues. In this way, SeTeL has developed fruitful collaborations with companies such as Telespazio, Italian Railways, Ansaldo (signal and train manufacturer company) (part of the Hitachi Group), Poste Italiane, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, among others.
The SeTeL Group consists of three companies, SeTeL, SiTiN and DEF-TECH:
SeTeL (Team Leader)
Coordinates development, marketing, commercial and technical strategies. The main asset is the provision of ILS - Integrated Logistics Support activities such as R&M, Logistics Support Analysis (LSA), Supply Support Services and Products, Security Analysis; it also operates as a software company, guaranteeing SeTeL full autonomy in the design, development and quality control of ICT applications, which the company uses as a support for its activities and the high-end technological products it proposes to the market.SeTeL owns a stake in SiTiN 20%.
SiTiN
A group of companies that develops innovative services and products in the field of engineering and technical documentation and technical training. In particular:
-Computerized documentation systems (XML, SGML, HTML) in accordance with international standards; SiTiN is able to design, draft and produce a wide range of documents: technical manuals for operation and maintenance; catalogs with illustrations; technical and project specifications; tender documents; etc.
-Develop technical training on procedures, techniques and processes applied to complex systems. In cooperation with SeTeL, traditional training processes (theoretical-practical courses for operators and maintenance staff, on-the-job training, etc.) and technology-based training activities; in solutions that can be developed:
✓ Interactive simulator.
✓ CBT Multimedia Course.
✓ E-learning systems that meet international standards (SCORM, IACC).
✓ Provide training courses for specialized resources in the areas of document engineering, logistics and training.
DEF-TECH
Founded by SeTeL's R&D group, it specializes in the development of innovative solutions in traditional core activities, drawing on the group's systems expertise built up over 47 years of experience in complex systems. Over the years, the company has developed several projects in different areas such as:
-Controls, monitoring and measures.
-Microsensor.
-Inflatable system.
-3D hybrid microelectronics.
-Tension sensors.
-Actuators based on shape memory alloys.
-Robotic systems.
-Components in composites (damage assessment).
SeTeL and SiTiN use innovative analysis and development methods to develop software solutions for web and stand-alone processing stations. In addition, when specific competencies are required for research activities, DEF-TECH draws on in-house expertise as well as on the expertise generated by the extensive knowledge network established over the years with universities and research institutes. As mentioned earlier, SeTeL's main activities cover three engineering areas (logistical support, documentation and training).
Integrated Logistics Support Project
It includes the design, delivery and provision of value-added services, for example:
-Reliability, maintainability and testability studies of innovative materials, composites, technologies, sensors, devices, systems and complex equipment, as well as analysis of the "safety and risk" factors associated with them.
-FMEA, FMECA, FTA, RCFA, HAZOP, Human Factors Engineering, Safety Analysis.
-Maintenance programs (preventive, corrective, predictive and progressive).
-Experience and knowledge of ILS topics gained through participation in and support of the activities of major projects, for example:
✓ R&M analysis of avionics for Tornado, AMX, EH101, NH90, EFA, NIMROD, and A129 programs.
✓ Comprehensive logistics engineering activities (R&M analysis, technical documentation and training)
planning and implementation), involving the Norwegian SSSB system, the Danish SSSB system and the Swedish HF2000 system.
✓ Planning, implementation and management of ILS activities related to the Arianespace system
Telespazio Project.
✓ Participated in the ILS team for the ground segment of the IRIDIUM program with the Motorola Telespazio space division.
✓ Integration, testing and training activities on the Italian Air Force SICRAL Telespazio space program.
-Analytical LCM: acts as Italian VAR for the products of the Swedish company Systecon AB and provides relevant support and training for Italian end users. In addition, SeTeL offers analytical LCM studies and a competence platform based on Systecon's Opus_Suite, which allows to correlate three main criteria: strategic management, information management and analytical analysis. This means that decisions are based on the prediction of future results, quantified in terms of system life cycle costs, based on operational readiness and life cycle costs.
-Maintenance management system and configuration control management.
-Professional consultant in the area of ILS departmental regulations and standards (i.e., U.S. Department of Defense MIL, CALS, AECMA, DEF-STAN-0060, ASD S3000L, etc.).
-IT Logistics: IT solutions, starting with logistics databases, define methods and process logistics data to optimize logistics support for complex systems. Processes and databases are based on the legacy MIL-STD-1388 1A and 2B (Logistics Support Analysis) standards and evolving toward GEIA-STD-0007 to provide new Product Support Analysis (PSA) views and European ASD 3000 L (International Logistics Support Analysis Procedure Specification) legislation. The data generated by the study is entered into the logistics database and then processed to optimize all aspects of the logistics discipline (in accordance with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) standards and ASD Series (Aerospace and Defense) European legislation).
-Autonomous Logistics. The discipline evaluates each individual parameter and its overall state of degradation in a complex system, enabling the determination of the remaining life, which is related not only to predicted failures (which have been detected in the current system), but also to the degradation of safety and mission-critical parameters.
-Research activities, innovation and development in the field of ILS.
documentation project
This was the first asset for SeTeL to put into practice its concepts, skills and knowledge for the implementation of complex processes (such as the development of technical documentation) and the management, operational, technical and quality control procedures associated with them. From this workflow, over time, an integrated tool was developed, strongly supported by a strong technical background, able to implement, optimize and effectively manage all phases of the documentation process by means of objectives, content, required professional roles and technologies. Thanks to this system, called Technical Publishing System (TPS), SeTeL is able to design and develop any type of technical documentation through a true "smart factory" process, in which document formatting, editorial quality features, and creative activities performed by technical authors can be incorporated.
Communications engineering and training and knowledge transfer
This asset is closely related to SeTeL's fundamental mission, whereby SeTeL plans and implements training programs to transfer operations and maintenance tasks to end users as needed to achieve optimal system operational availability. It is with this in mind that the company implements market-required technical, process and management training programs. All qualified resources - be they operators, maintenance personnel, system engineers, project managers or specialists in the innovation development process - are trained to compete, each with their own competencies, the full functionality/operation of the system they will be required to operate on, or on which they will have to implement documentation or training activities.SeTeL develops training processes to ensure their high quality implementation in all phases: from the analysis of needs/requirements to the definition of training objectives, from the macro to the detailed design, up to the delivery of the courses/lessons, the control of the results, and the timely follow-up. This means that, for both traditional and "technology-based" training projects, there are sufficient specialized resources, such as educational analysts/systems, instructional systems designers, multimedia instructional designers, lecturers and trainers, and project managers. Over the years, a fourth asset has been added to the above: integration engineering and multidisciplinary governance. that are characterized by the intermingling of non-homogeneous skills. In this case, SeTeL can:
-Facilitates and optimizes multidisciplinary and multidisciplinary linkages and communication capabilities between complex organizations (large, medium, small and OdR) in the development of high-tech projects.
-Ensure effective governance of activities/issues related to the integration of national and international actors (businesses, universities, research, etc.) with very different languages, technologies and entrepreneurial cultures.
-Manage processes aimed at creating clusters and cluster networks, including entrepreneurs and researchers operating in innovation supply chains.
SETEL is since July 31, 2003 iso9001 certified. The certification covers the various engineering activities described so far and the ADOA certification is used with EASA for the design of avionics equipment.
