As the excavation continues, more evidence points to the conclusion that Nanjing's earliest city can be traced back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties: there are obviously collapsed rammed-earth walls in the ring trench; the wells on the periphery of the ring trench were built in the Late Shang Dynasty; the pottery with triangular rows of lines, trapezoidal patterns and other decorations unearthed at the site has obvious characteristics of the Shang Dynasty; pig bones, charcoal and other pieces of unearthed relics were calculated by carbon-based 14 dating, which resulted in the timeframe of the Late Shang and Early Zhou periods. The excavated relics of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties at the Xijie site are relatively abundant, including ceramic ceramics, earthenware vessels, ceramic tripods, ceramic beans, ceramic gui, ceramic goblet-shaped cups, ceramic jia, primitive ceramic jars, primitive ceramic beans, jade jade, copper, and so on.
