Imagine that.
Walking into a building's lab.
Beating heart, metabolizing liver, breathing lungs
......
These "millimeter" body parts.
In a chip the size of a palm
After a period of 2-3 weeks, it can be conceived
This is not a scene from a sci-fi movie
It's Prof. Zhongze Gu's team at Southeast University.
The results of more than a decade of dedicated scientific research
"Organ Chip."
At the recently held
Organ Chip Research Institute of Southeast University
High-level construction promotion meeting
"Organ Chip Building."unveil a license plate
Announced to settle in Nanjing Jiangbei New District
01
Human "organ chips"
All in one building.
The human "organ chip" technology is the key core technology in China's biomedical field that needs to be overcome. What is a human "organ chip"?
That is: a set of micro-physiological systems constructed outside the human body through the cross-integration of stem cells, biomaterials, nanofabrication and other cutting-edge technologies.
Professor Gu Zhongze of Southeast University, director of Southeast University's Organ Chip Research Institute, introduced that the function of human "organ chip" is the same as that of organs in the human body. Therefore, the research team can utilize the "organ chip" to carry out drug screening, efficacy evaluation and other experiments.
The unveiling of the "Organ Chip Building" is located in the Jiangbei New District of Nanjing, where the biomedical industry is concentrated. In the building, basic research, technology research and development, talent training, etc., will also attract a number of enterprises to move in, the "organ chip" application demonstration and industrial transformation.
At present, the physical construction of the "Organ Chip Building" has been completed, and it is expected that the basic functions can be realized by the end of this year.
02
The first national standard for "organ chips".
Eastern University led the development of
In addition to scientific research carriers, Southeast University is also in the field of "organ chip" technology standards continue to make efforts.
Recently, China's first "organ chip" in the field of national standards "skin chip general technical requirements" (GB/T44831-2024) officially released. The standard is led by Professor Gu Zhongze team to complete the drafting, by the Nanjing Food and Drug Supervision and Inspection Institute, Nanjing Metrology Supervision and Inspection Institute to participate in the development.
"Skin microarrays are miniature cell and tissue culture devices generated using in vitro microfluidic chips that mimic the biochemical and physiological properties of the skin, and are expected to be an effective tool for toxicology testing, drug screening, and cosmetic evaluation.
The formulation of the General Technical Requirements for Skin Chips marks an important step in the field of organ chip standardization in China. It mainly stipulates the definitions of relevant terms of skin chips, technical requirements for the appearance of skin chips, cell source, component performance, and biological performance, and applies to the design, production, and testing of skin chip products with microfluidic chips as carriers.
In the future, "skin chip" is expected to partially replace the existing simple two-dimensional cell culture experiments, animal experiments, artificial skin experiments, and become the most cutting-edge and powerful evaluation standards and experimental tools for skin-related in vitro evaluation.

The first "center" in the country
Digging deep into the university research "rich mine"
Currently, Prof. Zhongze Gu's team from Southeast University has moved into theNanjing Biomedical Sub-center Transformation PlatformThis platform is a "big deal". This platform is a "big deal".
In order to promote the transformation of scientific research achievements of universities, this year, the Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Province signed a cooperation agreement to build the first national university regional technology transfer and transformation centers, the first batch of three major industrial directions identified as biomedicine, information and communications, advanced materials.
Among them, Nanjing Biomedical Sub-center Transformation Platform, settled in Nanjing Jiangbei New District.
At present, the construction work of the sub-center is in full swing.
➩ On the one hand."Going Out".Traveling to colleges and universities across the country, actively communicating and docking the demand for scientific research transformation, has established a regular communication mechanism with 25 colleges and universities across the country;
➩ On the other hand, "invite in,"It is planned to set up 18 functional sub-platforms to create a full chain technical support guarantee system from university research output, proof of concept, pilot maturation to small batch trial production.
It is especially worth mentioning that the sub-center will also regularly collect technical demands from leading enterprises in science and technology, and the enterprises and participating universities will jointly select and answer questions, so as to match the demands and projects and carry out collaborative research between universities and enterprises in the way of "enterprises make a list and universities reveal the list".
In the future, the sub-center also plans to set up a technology transfer and transformation team of about 200 people to help university teams cross the various difficulties from the laboratory to the production line, so that they can realize technology transformation without leaving the park and produce more cutting-edge innovative products.
