Lishui has a new historical and cultural landmark.
According to the latest initiative of Nanjing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, in order to carry out the requirements of the newly revised "Regulations on the Administration of Geographical Names" of the State Council on strengthening the protection of toponymic culture, Nanjing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau selected four old toponyms from the list of municipal toponymic cultural heritage, and made monuments and plaques for the protection of toponymic cultural heritage, so as to protect toponymic cultural heritage in the form of plaques and monuments. Lishui "Scholar's Square" was successfully selected.
On the day of the completion of the tablet, the morning light was shining and the Zhongshan Academy was quiet. Craftsmen carefully engraved with a "Scholar's Square" and the introduction of the name of the monument slowly raised, installed on a good base. This piece of place name monument is made of lapis lazuli, simple and elegant, engraved with simple and dignified official script, calm and atmospheric, both traditional flavor and modern atmosphere.
Full text of the tablet: Scholar's Square, one of the protected list of toponymic cultural heritage in Nanjing. It was originally located at the intersection of Zhongdajie and Daximen Street in Lishui city, and is now known as the place name of the area. It is recorded in the Song History that Yu Li, a native of Lishui, was given the title of Scholar in the first place in the first house of Lishui in the fourth year of Chongning (1105), and the Scholar's Square was built by imperial edict. The "Yu's Genealogy" in the "Record of Restoration of Scholar's Square" says that the square is "Wu Toushao Wedge", which is quite magnificent. The ancient Scholar's Square is a double-storey wooden structure with four pillars, eaves and arches, horizontal trusses and tile roofs, which was destroyed by the bombing of the invading Japanese army in 1937, and then rebuilt in front of the Zhongshan Academy on the east side of Qifeng Road.
The stele recorded in detail the historical origin of Scholar's Square, Yu Li's life story, the initial appearance of Scholar's Square and the repair of successive generations. Ren Kunqi, deputy director of the Civil Affairs Bureau, introduced that the toponymic monument of Scholar's Square installed this time is not only the same as the toponymic monument of Wuyi Lane in Fuzhimiao, Nanjing in terms of specifications, but also strives for excellence in design and production, and strives to present the historical flavor of Scholar's Square in Lishui, providing a window for citizens and tourists to understand the history and culture of Scholar's Square intuitively.
Scholar's Square, as an important cultural symbol of Lishui, has a history of more than 900 years. In the fourth year of Chongning of the Northern Song Dynasty (1105), Yu Li, a native of Sanyang Township of Lishui (Mingjue Community of Shiqiu Street today), became the first scholar of Lishui County recorded in the historical data by obtaining "the first place in the upper house" with his excellent talent. In order to commemorate this historical event, the Scholar's Square was built in the local area, which has been repaired in many dynasties such as Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing. Scholar's Square witnesses Lishui's tradition of respecting literature and learning and the wonderful course of pursuing excellence, carrying rich historical and cultural information.
"This tablet is not only a kind of protection for the cultural heritage of Lishui's geographical names, but also the inheritance and promotion of an important historical lineage. It demonstrates Lishui's long-standing historical and cultural heritage while enhancing the city's image and citizens' cultural pride." Ren Kunqi said that the district civil affairs department will continue to strengthen the protection and inheritance of the history and culture of geographical names, so that more people will understand Lishui and love Lishui.
