China’s first high-speed gearbox manufacturing factory built in Nanjing
As unanimously agreed by the First Ministry of Machinery Industry and the machinery bureau of Jiangsu Province, Nanjing Machine Tool Repair Factory was rebuilt into a high-speed gearbox factory in 1975. Nanjing High-speed Gearboxes Factory, China’s first specialized high-speed gearbox manufacturing factory, was put into production on March 5, 1980.
China’s first solar tower was built in Nanjing
Solar tower, China’s first large solar tower telescope built by the Department of Astronomy, Nanjing University, was built at the southern foot of the Purple Mountain in Nanjing on November 16, 1982. The project won a second prize of the first National S&T Progress Award in 1985.
Jinling Hotel – “highest building in China” – in Nanjing
Jinling Hotel opened on October 4, 1983. The 37-storey, 110.75-meter-high hotel became the highest building in China at that time. Xianxin road crossing-river bridge will become China’s largest span suspension bridge upon completion
The Xianxin road crossing-river bridge is a single-span suspension bridge with a main span of 1,760 meters, a steel box girder and a 263.8-meter-high main tower. The bridge consists of two upper and lower beams, of which the upper beam is a N-shaped steel structure inspired by the first letter of “ning” (pinyin), the short name of Nanjing. It is novel and beautiful.
